Let water wash away your aches & pains.

If you suffer from sore muscles, an aching back or painful joints, it’s time to pool your efforts at finding relief. Aquatic therapy is an excellent treatment option for many patients. The buoyancy of water allows patients to perform therapeutic exercises that may be difficult or painful on land. The warm water helps patients relax and provides a gentle resistance that improves strength, endurance and range of motion. The buoyancy of water minimizes the effects of body weight and joint compression on painful joints and sore muscles. And Denton Sports & Physical Therapy Center is the only practice in the area to offer an aquatic therapy program as well as pediatric aquatic therapy.

Water works!

Many patients can benefit from aquatic therapy, and it is not necessary to know how to swim to participate. Patients who find it beneficial include those with arthritis or fibromyalgia, or who are obese and suffering from muscle, bone or joint conditions. Children with autism, muscular dystrophy or cerebral palsy do well with aquatic therapy. Patients who are recovering from joint replacement or other orthopedic surgery find they can do range of motion, strengthening and endurance training in water within a short time period of their procedure. By promoting improved circulation through early movement, aquatic therapy results in faster healing of the injured surgical site and helps prevent scar tissue formation.

Aquatic therapy is performed at the Denton Water Works Park Natatorium year-round. It is not water aerobics or swimming; it consists of specific exercises done with the assistance of the therapist or therapy aide. There are convenient steps with side railings to assist patients and an aquatic therapy chair that will allow less ambulatory patients the convenience of being lowered and raised during therapy sessions.
